In the Feb. 28 News Tribune, syndicated movie reviewer Richard Roeper told us his opinion about the new movie, "Son of God." He told us not to waste our time or money.
But I totally disagreed with his opinion. My wife and I went, and we both felt the acting was great and, for the most part, Roma Downey and her husband, Mark Burnett, did a great job presenting the "greatest story ever told."
I am 59 years old and have seen most movies about Jesus, and this ranks as one of the better ones. Sometimes, because the life of Christ is so well-known and maybe because we know what will happen next and there are no real surprises, we might not be sitting on the edges of our seats wondering what will happen next. But it's still a wonderful story and worth the time and money spent to be reminded about what the Jews were going through under Roman rule and what worship was like for the common folk. It can help us appreciate how we live today and how wonderful our worship experiences can be compared to 2,000 years ago.
