I keep thinking about a story in the News Tribune published May 31, 2002. It was about how I went back to school after having my baby (she’s turning 16 now!) and how I graduated while living on my own with her. The story was headlined, “Alternative high school fuels teen’s drive to succeed.”
Well … I feel horribly about some things I said in the story, including that I went back to school because I didn’t want to work at McDonald’s for the rest of my life. Wow! I can’t even stand thinking about having said that. Writing it out felt so much worse. I was so young and dumb. I had no idea of the real world. I feel so bad that I disrespected so many people in saying what I did. I may end up working at McDonald’s one day, for all I know.
I don’t have the words to say all that I feel on this matter. I wish I could go back in time and do things differently, not just with the article but with every aspect of my life.
I have thought about writing and saying something for a few years, and about five times this month alone. Ugh. Finally done.
