Reader's view: Schultz values education

I've been an educator mostly at the post-secondary level for more than 30 years, both in the U.S. and overseas. Being able to go to college changed my life, and I've seen that happen again and again in my students.

I’ve been an educator mostly at the post-secondary level for more than 30 years, both in the U.S. and overseas. Being able to go to college changed my life, and I’ve seen that happen again and again in my students.
I come from a family of very modest means but was able to graduate from college and without debt partly because I worked my tail off in factories and driving a taxi in Chicago. But it was largely because public higher education then was affordable and geared toward what blue-collar families like mine could afford. Since then I’ve worked hard as an instructor at public institutions like the ones I attended so my students could get every nickel’s worth out of their tuition money, especially since they have to go so far into debt nowadays to pay it.
From her own personal experiences, House District 7A candidate Jen Schultz knows these things, too, and is a strong advocate for affordable, quality public education along with other policies that maximize fairness and equal opportunity.
Minnesota’s progressive tradition is the reason for its current economic competitiveness. With our support and activism, Jen Schultz will keep this tradition moving forward.
