Reader's view: Sacred site not the place to erect religious building

The writer of the Aug. 18 letter, "Badly done, Gov. Pawlenty," expressed that Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty acted inappropriately by stating he was not in favor of building a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.

I agreed with the governor's opinion, as do many others.

We should have a memorial on Ground Zero that would be a tribute to those who became the untimely victims of a murderously planned disaster, and we should remember the workers who consistently worked to find, save and care for the injured. In no way should we apologize to those who performed such devastation.

Yes, freedom of religion is each person's choice, but not in building a mosque, synagogue or any church on a sacred location.
