Older Americans who thought they spent their adult years as responsible people are now being treated as burdens to society by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
During our working years we always invested as much as we possibly could into what we thought were secured retirement savings opportunities. After years of saving, we were rewarded by our Wall Street financial institutions raping those very savings and leaving us much more dependent on our Social Security benefits than we ever could have imagined -- benefits, I might add, that we paid into for all our working years. We still pay taxes on what is left of our investments equal to or greater than the Republican candidate himself.
A burden to society? I think not.
