One thing all the Republican candidates for president seem to have in common: They all want a weak, barren government for you. They want to make government as inconsequential in your life as possible. Good idea, right? These Republican politicians are too cowardly to tell you what they really think you don't need, what their small government won't pay for.
Here are a few examples: You don't need clean air or water; abolish the EPA. You don't need funding for education for children. You don't need a safe workplace. You don't need consumer-protection rights. You don't need unemployment insurance. You don't need union bargaining rights. And for sure you don't need Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, even though 80 percent of Americans want it and have paid into it.
Even though you don't need any of the above protections, every day we hear of yet another Republican politician benefitting from government programs, farm subsidies, mortgage loans, business loans and stimulus (dirty word for you but not for them) money. They seem to want these benefits for themselves, but not for you.
We need government-sponsored health care for every American yesterday. Every industrialized country in the world has it. And their citizens absolutely love it! They are getting something for their tax dollars. They don't have to have bake sales and car washes to pay for someone's catastrophic illness. How preposterous is it to raise a few hundred dollars towards a $500,000 medical bill?
And alas, we've got another Republican running for president, Rick Perry, governor of Texas, who's known for helping to create the largest number of poor people in the state's history. Now isn't that special?

Too many people vote against their own best interests. They need to pay attention to those who are really on their side.
