As we approach the final days of the presidency of George W. Bush, I would like to express my gratitude for his service to our country. Specifically, his response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was courageous and admirable.
I cannot speak for President Bush's critics; he will never be sophisticated or perfect enough for them.
I cannot speak for the survivors of the victims of Sept. 11; I imagine that their pain and grief are unspeakable.
However, I hope to speak for President Bush's supporters. When he put his arm around the firefighter atop the rubble, he put his arm around us. When he cried, he cried with us. When he spoke, he spoke for us. When he commanded the attack against the Taliban, he fought for us.
We appreciate his service to our country. We will remember his strengths, not his flaws. We salute him for his courage and service.
