One of the most encouraging aspects of the ongoing protests has been their diversity. Never in our nation's history have protesters been so diverse, particularly when the origin of the angst was rooted in racial discrimination. Aside from the criminal opportunists (looters, rioters) who have no statistical racial significance, the vast majority of protesters have been peaceful and noble.
This should lend encouragement to every one of us. We are Americans. We stand for justice, equal protection under the law, and peace between us all. We have made progress in our country, and we should be heartened by it.
