I have noticed that in the past few years Presidents Day has become, for most, a nonholiday. Itâs not celebrated like it used to be. Hardly anything is closed unlike for the majority of other legal holidays. The only time I hear it mentioned is for sales. Other than that, I hear nothing. I donât remember when this started, but nowadays itâs nothing but a date on the calendar.
You ask younger people about Presidents Day and they donât seem to know anything about it or whose birthdays we are remembering. Some donât even know who those presidents were or what they represent to our country. To me this is a shame, because they were two of the most influential presidents in our countryâs history.
People know all about the other legal holidays but seem to have forgotten this one. I think we should go back to remembering it like we do the others and make a big deal of it, as we do with some of the others. After all, where would the majority of the people here be if it hadnât been for those presidents?
