Duluth lost out on a great person when Matt Potter lost his bid for City Council. However, that loss has turned into a gain for the city's hillside neighborhoods. Potter is an extremely dedicated person, and he showed this in the remarkable turnaround he and his family have made of the 4th Street Market, converting it from the dark, dingy place it was under former management to a bright, friendly place open for all patrons, not just a select group ("4th Street Market customers glad to see store reopen," Jan. 10).

The Potters make sure to take time to listen to customer concerns and requests. And, unlike at some stores, they actually believe customers are important. That's unlike many convenience stores, some of which ban customers for complaining about service. The Potters instead act on complaints.

Let's all give the Potters a big hand and welcome them to the hillside in their new spot -- and thank them for giving us a great shopping place!
