A July 3 letter suggested that shooting wolves to protect pets should be allowed. I disagreed.
Wolves are not “savage carnivores,” as the letter called them. They hunt to eat, unlike human hunters, most of whom hunt just to hunt.
It is every pet owner’s responsibility to keep pets safe, which means not letting them run around loose to get in the way of wolves looking to feed.
Wolves are incredibly valuable top-line predators that help maintain the wild ecosystem on which we all depend - even pet owners.
