While walkers may have the absolute right-of-way, they should not make assumptions with their own safety and step into the street at anytime and anywhere. It would be much safer for drivers and walkers alike if pedestrians would use common sense and take a look before stepping into or pushing a stroller into traffic. Courtesy and awareness would benefit all of us.
Pedestrians can be especially wary and careful at night. Although vehicles have headlights, it doesn't necessarily mean motorists can see someone in dark clothes stepping into a crosswalk, especially at an unlighted corner. Similarly, in the dark, a group strolling down the center of a residential street is difficult to spot.
Common sense and courtesy would go a long way to keeping everyone safe.
