Reader's view: Oberstar looks out for the little guy

I'm glad we have Jim Oberstar in Washington. Oberstar supported regulating Wall Street, Big Oil and health-insurance companies. His is a rare voice in Congress. He's willing to stand up to those big dogs.

Oberstar has been the change that Washington has needed his whole career. He opposes the privatization of Social Security, and will not sacrifice Americans' retirement security to the whims of the stock market. Last year, he supported an increase in the minimum wage that added more than $5 billion to the paychecks of the lowest-income earners in America. He supports ending tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.

Oberstar leads by example. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, on which Oberstar serves as chairman, is one of the most productive -- and that says something in these polarizing times. As chairman, Oberstar is pushing ahead with a transportation bill that will create 174,000 jobs in Minnesota over six years, without adding a dime to the deficit.

Keep Jim Oberstar in Washington, creating jobs, reinvesting in our roads and looking out for us!
