I support U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar because he supports the working people of Northeastern Minnesota. Oberstar knows a strong union movement is essential to a strong economy and a strong democracy. He doesn't just talk the talk but has demonstrated his support for prevailing wage, the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively and many other issues.
Oberstar's opponent, Chip Cravaack, says he has been a union representative, but he doesn't seem to support workers who want to become part of a union. He fails to recognize that labor law in the U.S. is broken and favors employers, not employees. All the power is in the hands of employers who coerce and intimidate workers who demonstrate interest in forming a union.
Another crucial component of our democracy and our economy is infrastructure investment. There again, Oberstar has been a tireless champion for these investments. As chairman of the transportation committee, he is in a position that the 8th District can't afford to lose. He has a track record that proves he is equally a relentless champion for working families. I hope you'll join me in supporting Jim Oberstar on Nov. 2.
