Jim Oberstar is exactly the type of leader our country needs during these difficult times. He has knowledge, empathy, strong advocacy, effectiveness and integrity. He always has stayed true to the values of northern Minnesota.
Now, I am far from an unbiased observer. I worked with Congressman Oberstar for many years and know, firsthand, the quality of his character, the importance of his service to our area and how deeply and profoundly he loves our area. Jim Oberstar has dedicated a lifetime to fighting for the people of our area; he gives every ounce of his person and his energy to public service -- not only to the people of Minnesota but for the betterment of our nation.
As mayor, I know how important Oberstar's leadership is to the people of Duluth and to the future progress of our region. He is a partner in our economic-development efforts, he was a leading advocate for the 148th receiving the new block 50 jets, he delivers for needed and important public improvements for sanitary sewer systems, airport improvements, port improvements and so much more.
