Reader's view: Oberstar has had mandate, not monopoly

Any "monopoly" U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar has -- as suggested by the writer of the Oct. 12 letter, "It's time to end Oberstar's monopoly on office" -- was given to him by the voters of Minnesota's 8th Congressional District.

Any "monopoly" U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar has -- as suggested by the writer of the Oct. 12 letter, "It's time to end Oberstar's monopoly on office" -- was given to him by the voters of Minnesota's 8th Congressional District.

In the last four elections alone he has carried the district with margins of 64 percent to 69 percent. That is not a monopoly. It is a mandate from the people of the district. The voters show such confidence in Oberstar because he has represented the best interests of workers, families, businesses and communities in northern Minnesota and will continue to do so when we re-elect him again in November.
