I can't speak for all nurses, but those I work with are selfless and giving of themselves, even when they don't have any more to give.
The nurses' recent contract dispute was about patient safety ("SMDC nurses ratify contract, ending threat of 1-day strike," Sept. 11). Nurses are the spokespersons for that. They fought to ensure that when anybody comes to the hospital for any situation, they will be taken care of in the manner that promotes their safety and well-being.
That's why nurses go into the profession: Because they care.
