U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan deserves thanks for the work he is doing to promote a safer and more secure world for us all.  As a co-coordinator of the Minnesota Peace Project in the 8th Congressional District (minnesotapeaceproject.org) along with Jack Kemp and Penny Cragun - and as a member of Veterans for Peace, Chapter 80, representing the Twin Ports - I am very appreciative of Rep. Nolan’s consistent and strong voice opposing our country entering into further “wars of choice,” as he calls the conflicts.
Ever since I served for three years in the Marine Corps in the 1960s, I have felt we must find better ways to resolve international conflict than resorting to violence, where so many innocent lives suffer and are lost.
Rep. Nolan recently officially announced his support for the negotiated agreement with Iran to eliminate the production of nuclear arms. While not a popular position with some, clearly the very nature of negotiation between competing interests necessitated compromise. No side gets everything it wants. As Rep. Nolan stated, “There is no better alternative to the agreement,” and our world does not want or need another war in the Middle East.
I appreciate Rep. Nolan’s efforts to reduce bloated military spending while still supporting our troops. We will be a stronger and more secure nation when we devote more resources to strengthening our country from within by investing in our people, our economy and our infrastructure. Rep. Nolan can be thanked for his leadership in all these areas.
