This is regarding those working men and women who believed planning for the future by investing hard-earned funds into pension plans would allow for a retirement, not a fortune, but a mere comfortable way of life with quality time spent with family and friends. After many years of service, well, guess what, that’s exactly what members of one of the biggest Teamster unions were promised and believed.
Now these members, as of an October 2015 notification, face cuts in their retirement pensions up to 60 percent due to the mismanagement of pension funds (“Retirees say feds failed to protect pension fund,” Jan. 22). Really?
Wake up, my friends, union or not; if we allow this to continue, who’s next?
Recently, Congressman Rick Nolan spoke to local Teamster members, expressing his outrage on this issue. I now know he stands up for working men and women. Let’s hope we find more representatives who will step up and address this most important issue.
Call me old-fashioned, but I believe we vote for a reason. So let’s get the support we deserve and earned. Welfare and food stamps are not an option.
