The March 6 article, “Police meet with tenants, landlords about rental placard compliance,” was of interest. I’m quite sure my landlord is at or near the top of the list of those who care for and manage properties. He knows the only way I want to leave my home is to be carried out (hopefully a long time from now).
I pay market-rate, and my landlord deserves it, though once I did need help. As most people do, I appreciated the programs in place to help me raise my children in safe and clean housing. I remember being told that it was meant as a hand up for a limited time, and that’s how it worked out for us.
My understanding is the placards are so emergency personnel can have quick access. For anyone to assume a unit is low-income housing would be just plain wrong.
Owner-occupied housing could be required to also post info, with a contact, in case the owner is out of town. To bring it to absurdity, Duluth could require mortgage amounts and payment records, so we all could know if our neighbors are in default.
I feel Duluth is a great place to live, and I believe we need to work together without being petty over housing rules.
