Neil Armstrong is the name of a man who is without a doubt the greatest explorer of all time, bar none -- a man who was unafraid of going on a journey that held high possibilities of never returning to home and loved ones. But he saw the need to take that first step for mankind.
The human being always has been a venturesome thing, and thank God we had Armstrong. Who among us has the courage to take such a dangerous trip into such an unfriendly environment? As the saying goes, "To go where no other man has ever gone before." Armstrong did and the rest of the astronauts did, as well. We should regard them as genuine heroes of our generation or, for that matter, any generation past or present.
Armstrong is a real hero in every sense of the word. I hope people will get to realize what he did along with the other astronauts was a great service to us all.
Wouldn't it be nice if we had an emergency place to migrate to in the event of a collision between Earth and an asteroid? Don't laugh; it already has happened several times in the past (no people were alive during the last impact, but there are 7 billion now). Locating another Earth would be the answer if this should happen again; the human race could be saved.
For us everyday people, there are so many benefits that have been realized through the space program. To name just a few: memory foam bedding; new materials; the upgrade of metallurgy-aviation technology; better communications; and advances in astronomy, mathematics and medicine.
