The writer of the Feb. 5 letter, "Election of Franken shows state's ignorance," seemed a bit misguided about the sources of morality.

In the history of humankind, it is custom, culture, progress and humanity's sense of being part of a group that has decided what is moral and immoral. The United States is certainly not one nation under God. "Under God" is a catch phrase added during the 1950s as a response to Russian secularism. The U.S. is not a Christian nation. It is a secular nation in which Christians and other religions are free to practice their beliefs. Christians happen to be the majority.

It's refreshing to see people use reason rather then religious dogma and appeals to God and the Bible when casting votes.

Anyone who wants to justify murder, rape, stoning, genocide or infanticide, the Bible is their book. Apparently, God is OK with those things.
