Kudos to Marshall School for seeing the importance of education in Duluth with their expansion to include fourth grade, as reported in the Dec. 14 News Tribune.
Our daughter attended middle school at Woodland, but this fall we decided to enroll her at a school that valued children, education, respect and integrity. We chose Marshall.
We foresee the Duluth school district suffering further financially unless it realizes the importance of safe, stable classrooms where children are valued. Rather than seeing children for their economic value from the state and federal government, the district can see them for their academic and personal growth.
As our daughter would say, "Marshall has it going on."
If you provide a superior product or service, a business will flourish. If you do not, your customers will go elsewhere. The Duluth school district should not blame financial shortfalls solely on the state. Our guess is the district's stated loss of 160 students, as reported in the Dec. 11 News Tribune ("Facing shortfall, Duluth School Board weighs layoffs"), is due to students going instead to Marshall, Edison, Holy Rosary, St. John's and other superior "businesses."
