There are many complaints about the mail in the city of Duluth, but I want to write about a wonderful mail carrier named Becky.
My father, who was going on 92, just died. Up to his death, he was proud of his being able to live alone and look after himself. What helped was his desire to connect with those in his life. Becky was an important person to him. She delivered his mail each day, and he looked forward to talking to who he called “his mail ma’am, his Becky.” Dad appreciated her delivering his mail each day. She shared time with our father when she could; and Dad would share tidbits of his conversations with us, which made his family pleased, as his world had gotten much smaller.
We shouldn’t have been surprised to see Becky at our father’s funeral. She already had shown how special a mail carrier she is by sharing a few words with our father each day. She honored their relationship by being there. She certainly is a great example of a mail delivery person with a big heart.
