It is time for Americans to acknowledge that for decades we have allowed an influence group with, reportedly, 5 million members to control the rational use of guns in our country. Yes, that has been stated as the membership of the National Rifle Association, or NRA.

We are a nation of more than 325 million people, and we have permitted the NRA to buy Congress, the courts, our presidency, and state governments. This crazy dynamic allows the lawful sale of weapons of war our Founders never envisioned. The NRA trots out the Second Amendment to our Constitution as a guarantee for Americans terrorizing other Americans. Now our national leaders are talking about arming educators.

Enough of this insanity.

Does a teenager need an assault weapon? Does an octogenarian need to be armed to protect our country? The absurdity of the NRA and its tropes needs to be called out for what it is, the use of untrue phrases that result in the growth of the gun industry in our country at the expense of life and liberty.

Other nations have restricted gun ownership and have not suffered consequences other than a sense of safety in public places, something the United States greatly lacks. Listen to our children.
