Janet Kennedy is a candidate for Duluth City Council At Large. I am honored to be working on her grassroots campaign committee.
Kennedy is a lifelong Duluthian and a single mom. She struggled to successfully traverse the policy potholes on the road out of poverty. As she struggled to navigate the barriers she faced as an African-American woman, she learned the value of helping others achieve self-sufficiency. During the past four years, Kennedy's record includes serving on the Duluth Planning Commission and working with the Cross-Cultural Alliance of Duluth, the Imagine Duluth 2035 long-range planning effort, and Health in All Policies Campaign.
Since 2010, a fifth of Duluth's population has been below the federal poverty line. It's time for change. Kennedy has said a community will survive and prosper as a whole when we are all walking on even ground. She knows policy decisions do not impact all of us in the same ways, and she is passionate about including the voices of all Duluthians to promote increased prosperity.
Kennedy's leadership brings people together to meet, talk, and find ways to progress - from words to consensus to action.
