After reading the Oct. 12 article, "Process of renaming Duluth school bogs down actual decision," all I can say is that if this has become such a "long and emotional" process, with disagreement even in the makeup of the naming committee, with its "lack of diversity," and if the discussions are "drawn out and often terse," here's an idea for all the School Board members and the naming committee:
Name it Ordean Middle School. I mean, doesn't that seem simple enough?
East High School took over the old Ordean site, so it makes perfect sense to me to swap names of the buildings. More importantly, perhaps without this "emotional issue" hanging over the School Board's head, it can spend time doing what's really important: finding more ways to reduce class sizes at our brand new, state-of-the-art schools because, quite frankly, as wonderfully updated as the schools are it doesn't make one ounce of difference when class sizes are 40 to 45 or more students. Just saying.
