Cities are judged by many factors, some by their beauty, others by the many attractions they have, and still others by their cleanliness. It is this factor I want to talk about in terms of the city of Duluth.
For a city that depends on tourism dollars year-round, Duluthians seem not to care much about the degree to which they litter their trash all over the place. Just a quick walk around some of the Central Hillside community streets and you find litter everywhere: in the street, on the sidewalk and on grassy areas. I am sure other neighborhoods in Duluth aren’t much different.
Add to that the dirt and sand from a winter’s worth of snow-removal operations, and you have one very messy city.
Now imagine if everyone actually did their part to help keep this city clean.
The views of a city visitors take back home with them can mean the difference between future visits and no return visit. No return visits means lost income for area businesses, and we all know where it goes from there.
So let’s all take it like it is, a matter of personal responsibility to pick up after ourselves to help keep Duluth clean and inviting.
