I challenge Mary Streufert to be honest and to tell us what she meant by "sensible" gun laws in her Sept. 25 Local View column in the News Tribune, "Honor the murdered by working for peace." She wrote about gun violence. Is it the same as knife, poison, bats or beating violence?
She also wrote about those of us who have this "privilege" and are "allowed" to carry a concealed weapon. Drivers' licenses are a privilege; being able to protect yourself is a right guaranteed by our Constitution. Reading the early history of our Founding Fathers reveals what they were thinking.
As she honestly (if she will) tells us what her "sensible" gun laws might be, I would ask that she also do some research to tell us how many crimes have been stopped by those who legally carry a weapon. She and others are safer because some of us carry, and the bad guys don't know who. She could put a sign on her house that reads, "No weapons here."
