We have an exciting opportunity this election to elect truly independent candidates to the Duluth City Council. These candidates will stand up for a strong earned sick and safe time ordinance, and they are not afraid to push for an additional scientific review of the proposed PolyMet mine.

Janet Kennedy works tirelessly for our community, and she understands that city priorities haven't included people with less income and less political power. As she points out, there is a health gap in our neighborhoods that leads to a life gap, about 10 years of life in some areas.

Rich Updegrove also fights for the underdog and for our lake. He knows some of the challenges young people face in this community. Housing is a major problem, both for renters and new homebuyers. This drives young people away.

Joel Sipress has served my district very well and has a reputation for being responsive to neighborhood needs. Not only that, he's a problem-solver who can bring people together to hash out a tough issue and come to a solution.

All three are people who will follow through on promises, not people who will give up at the slightest resistance. They deserve our votes.
