Reader's view: Hunters, animal defenders are all in this together

It's true there are unfair generalizations made of hunters, but the writer of the Dec. 19 letter made unfair generalizations of those who defend animals ("No limits to hypocrisy of anti-hunting rhetoric").

Everything in life is relative. While I am on the side of the animals and do not eat them, I view hunting as non-abusive compared to other human activities toward animals: fur farms, trapping, lab experiments, rodeos, circuses, the meat "industry." Those abusive-to-animals activities all involve prolonged lives of misery and torture. At least hunted animals had a natural life before their usually quick death.

We are all in this together, saving God's natural world so that people can recreate and wildlife have a place to live. The real bad guys are the polluters and destroyers, as also noted in the Dec. 19 News Tribune regarding the Nature Conservancy's efforts to keep forested land undeveloped.

"The trend ... has been hard on wildlife with the addition of roads, buildings and commotion where animals once lived," read the article, headlined, "More Kooch, Itasca forest lands preserved." Incredibly, our taxpayer-supported Minnesota Department of Natural Resources caters to off-road-vehicle users, roaring through forests, spewing pollution and commotion.

I ask all hunters to help restore peace and quiet to forested areas and to protect them from development.
