On July 13 I took my grandson to the Heritage Summer Hockey Classic, a benefit hockey game featuring successful local hockey players. The event helped raise money for young people to participate in youth hockey in our area. The players and organizer Butch Williams earned compliments for a great event.

In their pregame warm-up, the adult players skated with a group of children who had just entertained us by playing in a preliminary game. Seeing those adult role models skating and interacting with the kids was a sight to behold. The moment showcased athletes in a truly positive way, which I'd like to think is more the norm than the negative press we sometimes read about.

Finally, I hate to single out any one person, but three-time All-American and Hobey Baker Award winner Jack Connolly made himself available for pictures and autographs before the game, and my grandson was thrilled.
