I recently had the privilege of joining a group of parishioners from the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle to hear Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, speak in front of the Capitol building in St. Paul.
The anticipating crowd was large and eager to welcome Graham. The message was powerful and inspiring. He led us in a confessional prayer, asking God for forgiveness for our national sins and personal sin. He encouraged us to put our trust in Christ our Savior if we had never done so. Graham then asked all of us to continue to pray for our country and the November elections, to get involved in local government, and to be sure to vote. No candidates’ names were mentioned. Graham is taking his message to the capital city of every state in the union during 2016.
I believe those of us who are Christians need to take his message very seriously and embrace this call to pray earnestly for our country, especially for righteous leadership at every level. We need to remember the scripture verse that states: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
