Bill Hansen is the best choice to be Minnesota House District 3A’s representative.
The vilification he has received has not been deserved. He has been taken out of context. When he talked about the possibility of man-camps, he was referring to something Frank Ongaro of the Minnesota Mining Association said himself, that copper-nickel mining could make Northeastern Minnesota like North Dakota. Hansen pointed out that the boom and bust there damaged local communities, polluted water and caused social problems.
The foreign-owned corporations who own the PolyMet and Twin Metals projects will not care about us or our hard-
working people, I feel; they only want to take our resources as cheaply and quickly as they can.
Hansen never would disparage our Iron Range construction workers. However, a huge project being built will attract many people from all over looking for work and our social resources could be stretched beyond their limit.
Hansen advocates for a continuation of iron mining and creating value-added industry such as making steel right here.
He also has the perspective of enabling community-based, small- and medium-sized businesses that create sustainable jobs locally.
