I questioned the rhetoric regarding gun control reflected in the Feb. 17 letter, "Enhanced gun regulations won't lead to confiscation."

The letter writer stated three times, "I have never heard of any troops entering people's homes to confiscate their guns." I recommend he check documentation made during gun-confiscation efforts right after Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area, and I specifically recommend he watch footage of our troops going door to door. One clip is of a little old lady who had been holding an empty pistol upside down before a large burly officer tackled her. Gun confiscation already has happened here in America.

The letter advocated for "enhanced control measures." Historically, this has just been a precursor to weapon confiscation, which in turn turns citizens into subjects.

Anyone still alive who remembers Hitler's tactics? Or do we now deny the Holocaust ever even happened?

Thomas Jefferson once asked, "What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?"

Remember, gun control is not about guns, it's about control.

Two final questions: Why isn't more done to control the mentally ill or the parasites in our society who will never turn in their guns? And why are law-abiding gun owners targeted?
