The writer of the Feb. 15 letter, "Goldbergs' generosity extends to Iron River," extended well-deserved credit to the generosity of Dave and Lisa Goldberg.
I would like to acknowledge further donations by Dave Goldberg, specifically, toward the building of a very beautiful community center in Iron River. About 11 years ago, the Iron River Area Foundation decided on a project to build a much-needed community center. Dave Goldberg immediately volunteered to donate a large sum of money to help the project get started. Verne Slade, another Iron River High School alum, donated a large sum. Other donations by individuals, as well as community organizations and a federal Community Development Block Grant, resulted in a completed building, which was turned over to the town of Iron River, debt-free.
The building is named the Slade-Goldberg Center in their honor. John LaGesse and Roy Forslund were co-chairmen of this project, which involved the efforts of many community residents.
I must add that Dave Goldberg, an Iron River High School alum, is a faithful member of the alumni band, where he plays the tuba each summer for Iron River's Blueberry Festival parade.
