I recently brought a piece of ivory to be appraised by a so-called "expert appraiser" who said to me, "Stick a heated needle in it to see if it's plastic or ivory." I knew my piece was ivory; he couldn't tell.
I want to make people aware that just because one person tells them their heirloom is worth so much, it doesn't mean that appraiser's opinion is fact. I hate to see people get ripped off. People, please get several appraisals. It's worth it.
