The National Democratic Party's platform committee has endorsed gay marriage for the first time. A statement will go to the national convention in September in North Carolina. The platform also calls for a repeal of federal law that recognizes marriage as between a man and a woman. Scott Dibble, a committee member and state senator from Minnesota, said support for gay marriage will attract young people to the Democratic Party.
Is this really the way to win an election?
The leaders of our country, when drawing up the Constitution, prayed about their decisions and looked to God's Word for guidance. If our leaders today, including those in Duluth, followed the same procedures, we would not be going in the wrong direction. We would not be going further away from the Lord God.
We have need for real concern. No one can escape the wrath of God if choosing deliberately to ignore His word. Scripture lists many examples of what happened to those who did, and if our country continues on in the way it is going, God's judgment will fall on us as well.
But there is hope, according to the biblical book of 2 Chronicles: "If my people, which are called by name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
