We are writing in response to the News Tribune's Oct. 24 endorsement editorial regarding the Duluth school district's levy questions on the Nov. 6 ballot ( Our View/Endorsement: "'Yes,' 'no,' 'no' on school questions" ). We are happy the News Tribune brought this topic forward for discussion, but we respectfully disagreed with the endorsement.
We were fortunate to have schools in our hometowns that provided us with excellent educations, from kindergarten through high school. Our children deserve the same.
Not only are we voting "yes," "yes," and "yes" for our children, we are doing so also for our community. We have seen firsthand how difficult it can be to recruit new workers to Duluth. After the first questions about the job itself, the next question is always, "How are the schools?" With adequate funding of the Duluth public schools, we can always answer, without reservation, "Great." Let's retain a quality workforce, which benefits all of us by widening the tax base, not to mention by helping educate Duluth's future workforce.
Our community has a proven record of supporting the need to improve the infrastructure of our local roads and bridges. We need to think of these levy questions in the same way and vote to improve our local education.
Please vote "yes," "yes," and "yes" to give Duluth's students the tools that allow them to reach their full potential and keep us competitive as a city.
