What a great plan for using federal infrastructure funding -- Duluth Skyline Parkway should be the top priority ("Skyline is crumbling. Where do we start?" Feb. 5). If the hundreds of miles of other heavily traveled roads have gone this long in disrepair, they can surely go on being ignored for another year. Or two. Or three.

You know the roads I'm talking about. Kenwood Avenue by the shopping plaza. Woodland Avenue near Mount Royal. Second Street. Fourth Street. Glenwood. Or any road in Lakeside, for that matter.

This Skyline plan brings to mind the axiom, "beauty is only skin deep." As long as Duluth looks good on the outside, we can let it rot away on the inside all we want.

Maybe soon during my jarring, wheel-bending, tire-flattening daily commute through the city I can find a little peace of mind knowing that, way up there on that lonely hill above the city, is a smooth road with a nice overlook from where I can't see the thousands of potholes below.
