I have known incumbent City Councilor Zack Filipovich since 2010 when he was in student government at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He was a hard-working and respectful student leader, successful in increasing student participation and lobbying at the Capitol. Never one to do just the minimum, he always participated, became informed, asked probing questions, and took on work. He was never slowed by any problem, no matter how intractable it seemed.
So, it came as no surprise when he was awarded the 2012 Sieur du Luth Award, the highest undergraduate award given and one that recognizes ongoing exemplary service to student organizations, the university, and the community.
Since then, Filipovich has been just as active for Duluth. There is a reason why the News Tribune named him a member of 2016's "20 Under 40."
That same work ethic and intelligent consideration have been part of his performance as a city councilor. As a constituent, I've found Filipovich continues to be extraordinarily responsive to citizen needs and concerns, polite, considerate, and very effective.
Zack Filipovich represents the very best of Duluth, and I strongly encourage Duluthians to reelect him on Nov. 7.
