I enjoyed the fine articles about Brian Ryks and the new airport terminal by Candace Renalls in the June 25 News Tribune ("Going places -- from Duluth"). I can remember when the current terminal was built, and I have always regarded it as quite nice and very functional. Also, Ryks obviously has done a fine job.
However, Ryks said in one of the articles that "it didn't tap taxpayers to pay for it," in reference to the new airport terminal now being built. In another article, Renalls explained that about $67 million for the terminal came from state and federal sources and that the remaining $10.6 million was coming from another federal grant. I always thought federal and state money also came from taxpayers. What was I missing here?
