Denfeld’s 1947 boys basketball team is the only Denfeld basketball team to win a state title. The team’s head coach was Lloyd Holm. Team members were Rudy Monson, Larry Tessier, Paul Nace, Kenneth Sunnarborg, Eugene Norlander, Howard Tucker, Tony Skull, Jerry Walczak, Bruce Budge, Keith Stolen and student manager Bob Scott.

As a chaplain trained and employed by Essentia Health, I see the need in our disjointed and disconnected world for the kind of grace-filled encounters that make our world more human. As a frequent and regular attendee of the Essentia Health Fitness and Therapy Center, I value the health benefits of the classes I take in strength, flexibility, and endurance. I also value the connections I have made with the front-desk staff, my yoga instructors, and all the wonderful folks who keep the facility clean and functional. What really touches me are the interactions between the generations, between people of varying abilities, and folks who come by many means (bus, Stride, and friends who drive them among the ways) so they can get out, work out, and socialize in a broader environment.

If Essentia ever questions the value of the center ("Users aim to keep Essentia fitness center in Duluth," Jan. 6), I hope the decision-makers spend a few hours there, maybe in the quieter hours, and listen to the happy greetings, joking, shared concerns, and support offered among users of the center. The decision would then be easy - to continue to offer these invaluable services in an easily accessible and well-used location.
