I am writing this to all animal owners in the Twin Ports area. The city of Duluth has a leash law requiring owners to have their pets on leashes at all times while on public property.
I currently am a dog owner who uses the Lester Park trail system as well as the Lakewalk for daily walks. A couple weeks ago I encountered a loose dog in Lester Park that caused an altercation that resulted in elbow surgery after I tried to pull apart more than 100 pounds of dogs. Thankfully, no animals were injured; only my attendance record at work was damaged.
I just returned from a short trip on the Lakewalk and witnessed an individual at the 60th Avenue East crossing with a dog freely bounding on and off the Lakewalk. Really? Not all dogs welcome the sometimes-intimidating charge of an unleashed dog. Please think of the others you may meet.
