I was very moved by Mayor Emily Larson's Dec. 25 commentary in which she described traumatic events in October both for her family and her community (Mayor's View: "In times of political, other storms, remember what connects us").
I saved her column to read aloud to my husband when we had a moment to talk together. However, I got no further than the sixth paragraph, which began, "I gave a silent, honest prayer." At that point, I choked up and tears streamed down my cheeks. After a minute or two of trying, and utterly failing, to recover my composure, I finally managed to say, "I don't think I can read this to you anymore." My husband replied that he would read the column himself later. I will see that he does.
Duluth is so fortunate to have a mayor who has personally been through such an emotional fire and prevailed - and who is willing to share her inner life so fully with her constituents. She is a gifted writer and a gifted leader. Duluth is so lucky to have her in charge.
