The purpose of the nation state is to protect its citizens, and cutting Medicaid spending by more than $1 trillion, as proposed by the president, would do just the opposite.

It's time to speak to those who represent us in Congress, who make money decisions in our government, and tell them not to cut programs that care for citizens like Medicaid.

This is true of programs that provide ladders out of poverty, like the Section 8 voucher program. Currently, only one-fourth of those who qualify receive help. No wonder homelessness is increasing. It's time to boost funding for this program.

So make a call or send a letter to your representatives and tell them not to cut these vital programs but instead increase funding in order to end the struggle for basic needs among millions of Americans.
