National disasters aren't always about the weather. Domestic abuse is growing and problematic. This is not new and it's growing at an alarming rate. The Domestic Abuse Intervention Program is working to help those who desperately need it with advice and protection. If the program's organizations had more exposure then maybe the silent pain would not be hidden in shame but exposed and dealt with.

I do have a special interest in the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program because of the sadness I recently experienced with two friends whose lives ended tragically. While some realize it's OK to seek help and not be ashamed by abuse, there are many more who remain silent and live with fear and abuse. I believe we can all work together and help make it safe for them to come forward.

I'm so happy to see an event being done to sponsor this worthy cause. It's good to see that the local businesses and community are coming together to show their support. On Sept. 19, the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program is sponsoring a basketball charity featuring the Harlem Ambassadors vs. the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program Hot Shots. I purchased my ticket at a Super America store.

Please help me support this organization as we all know someone who could use it. See you at the game.
