First, let me premise my response to the July 14 story, "Lost dog stops traffic," by saying that I love dogs and would never want to see one harmed.

That being said, the woman who had her dog run away and into traffic should get a fine for not having her dog on a leash. I have two dogs, and I guarantee they are on a leash or on chains every minute they are outside for reasons of safety.

Next, the lady who decided to play traffic cop and block lanes of traffic without the training or emergency lights to do so should be fined for reckless driving. She could have caused a major accident. I am surprised nobody called to report her behavior. I know I would have. She should have called the city's animal control officer to do it.

I also would like to say that people who have their dogs in open Jeeps or in the backs of trucks are putting their animals at risk as well as other motorists who would attempt to get out of the way to avoid hitting an animal. Dogs need to please be secured safely. When rounding a corner with a truck or Jeep a dog can go flying out.
