I take the News Tribune's editorial opinions for just that, opinions. They often seem to reflect what I assume are the newspaper's owners' point of view.
A case in point was the July 27 editorial on PolyMet ( Our View: "Reject again this PolyMet roadblock'" ). It suggested that the PolyMet project has gone through the most rigorous environmental-review process ever and should proceed. But I've also read statements from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency that 40 percent of Minnesota's lakes and streams are unfit for human use or consumption. That's a disconnect. The News Tribune suggests one thing, but the MPCA says another. Who am I to believe? I put my money on the MPCA.
I have learned that some people will try to dazzle you with their brilliance, and, if that does not work, dazzle you with their bull. In the case of the Duluth News Tribune, I believe it to be the latter.
