Reader's view: DNT saving us from inappropriate comics

I want to personally thank the News Tribune for looking out for the well-being of our children by deciding to no longer publish "Doonesbury" in the Sunday comics (Editor Rick Lubber's View: "In comics, Doonesbury out; WuMo moving in," Aug. 6).

Now, all local children will be safe from the unsavory "adult subject matter" of Garry Trudeau's writings.

Thankfully, we will still have comic-strip character Beetle Bailey to teach our kids about ideal supervisor-subordinate relationships, Thirsty in "Hi and Lois" to model perfect neighborly conduct, and the "Lockhorns" strip to demonstrate marital bliss. Because we all know that bullying, marital problems and alcoholism are funny.

Thank you, too, for not altering the Aug. 15 "Close to Home" strip regarding first-date inappropriate touch. It was, again, another invaluable lesson for our kids.
